Love Creek Farm is seeking a dependable, knowledgeable, and hardworking Groom to join our team. This individual plays a vital role in ensuring the health, comfort, and daily care of our horses while maintaining a safe, clean, and organized barn environment.
The ideal candidate is passionate about horse care, takes pride in maintaining high standards, works well independently and as part of a team, and enjoys contributing to a positive experience for trainers, riders, and visitors. This individual will have excellent customer service skills and will exude professionalism when interfacing with visitors.
Role and Responsibilities.
Horse Care
- Groom, bathe, clip, and prepare horses for daily activities, lessons, and shows.
- Feed and water horses according to established schedules.
- Administer supplements and medications as directed.
- Clean and inspect hooves daily.
- Monitor horses for signs of illness, injury, or behavioral changes and promptly report concerns.
- Ensure horses receive attentive, compassionate, and consistent daily care.
Barn & Stall Maintenance
- Clean stalls daily and replace bedding.
- Clean and refill water buckets, troughs, and feeders.
- Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free aisles, wash stalls, and grooming areas.
- Assist with general barn cleanliness and facility upkeep.
- Follow established sanitation and biosecurity practices.
Training & Exercise Support
- Tack up and untack horses for trainers and riders.
- Hand-walk, lunge, or turn out horses as directed.
- Assist trainers during lessons, schooling sessions, clinics, and horse shows.
- Hold horses safely for veterinarians, farriers, and other equine professionals.
Tack & Equipment
- Clean, condition, and properly store saddles, bridles, and other tack.
- Maintain organized tack rooms and storage areas.
- Inspect equipment for wear and report damaged or missing items.
- Help ensure all equipment is clean, safe, and ready for daily use.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist with loading, unloading, and preparing horses and equipment for travel, shows, and clinics.
- Welcome and assist riders, clients, families, and visitors in a professional and friendly manner.
- Follow all farm safety procedures and animal welfare standards.
- Perform other barn-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Previous experience working with horses in a boarding, training, lesson, or competition barn preferred.
- Strong knowledge of horse handling, grooming, and daily care.
- Ability to recognize common signs of illness, lameness, or injury.
- Comfortable working around horses of various ages and temperaments.
- Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work in all weather conditions.
- Reliable transportation and dependable attendance.
- Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and positive attitude.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating with trainers and farm staff.
Schedule
- Position requires a minimum commitment of 8 hours per day, Monday through Saturday, based on the operational needs of the farm.
- A daily evening feeding is required and typically takes approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour, seven days per week.
- Weekend and holiday availability is required.
- Additional hours may be necessary to support veterinary and farrier appointments, training sessions, clinics, horse shows, or other farm operations.
- The successful candidate must be dependable and able to maintain a consistent schedule to ensure uninterrupted care for the horses.
