The Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Security Officer position. This position supports the safety and security of the Agency's Office and Warehouse Complex by monitoring facility access, conducting patrols, responding to safety and security concerns, and assisting employees, visitors, and customers. Security Officers serve as a visible security presence while helping maintain a safe, secure, and customer-focused environment. This position is subject to assignment on any shift.
Areas of Responsibility
Duties include conducting interior and exterior walking patrols of the complex in accordance with established policies and procedures; inspecting security, fire, HVAC, and electrical systems; monitoring access control, surveillance, and fire alarm systems; responding to security incidents, alarms, emergencies, and other critical events; notifying appropriate personnel or emergency services as needed; and preparing and submitting incident reports and shift activity logs in a timely manner.
The Security Officer also serves as the agency's first point of contact for employees, visitors, vendors, and customers, providing professional customer service in person and by telephone.
Minimum Skills and Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Valid Virginia driver's license required.
- Working knowledge of security principles and practices; safety and security concepts; law enforcement and investigative techniques; and fire prevention and protection procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with coworkers, agency staff, outside agencies, and the general public.
- Skill in operating a multi-line telephone system, security equipment, personal computers, Microsoft Office applications, electronic fire and security alarm systems, and motor vehicles.
- Ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations and apply defensive tactics and established response procedures when necessary.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, resolve problems, prioritize competing demands, and make decisions in accordance with agency policies and protocols.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Authority staff, outside agencies, and the public.
- Ability to work outdoors and in adverse weather conditions.
- Must be available to work any of three shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Experience as a law enforcement officer, security officer, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to obtain certification as an Unarmed Security Officer through the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS).
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, which may require extended periods of standing, walking, or sitting
Preferred Qualifications
- DCJS basic level certification is preferred.
- High school education or the equivalent.
