Primary Responsibilities:
- Set up, adjust and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations; align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines; monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
- Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
- Operate assigned machinery and equipment in a safe manner.
- Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
- Measure, marks and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers.
- Performs scheduled preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment; install repaired parts; install new equipment; clean and lubricate machines, tools, and materials in order to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter.
- Performs housekeeping tasks necessary to maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Requisitions material and tools required, and inspects them upon receipt for conformance to specifications
- Responsible for notifying supervisory personnel if a nonconforming condition exist.
- Performs other duties as directed by management personnel
Required Work Experience and Skills:
- Knowledge of materials, tools, and processes required in machining
- Knowledge of material qualities and properties
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the machining
- Ability to read and independently work from plans, sketches, diagrams, and blueprints
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Knowledge of methods, materials, operations and repairs involved in machining
- Knowledge of industry regulated safety practices and principles
