Job Description
This is a full-time, on-site position for a Research Engineer at Sersense, Inc. Join our interdisciplinary team of engineers and scientists in developing next-generation point-of-care diagnostic technologies and advancing innovative products from concept to commercialization. We are located in Rochester, Minnesota, in the heart of a dynamic medical and healthcare environment.
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer, Biomedical Engineer, or related professional with expertise in microsystems design and fabrication. The successful candidate will contribute to the design, development, testing, and optimization of custom microfluidic devices and their integration with electronic, electrochemical, and sensing subsystems.
Responsibilities include developing and testing microfluidic devices, creating and maintaining technical documentation and schematics, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, troubleshooting complex technical challenges, and supporting product development activities from concept through production. As our technology evolves, new challenges and opportunities will arise, requiring creativity, adaptability, and a hands-on engineering approach.

Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant industry, academic, or research experience in engineering, product development, microfluidics, or a related field
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in a related field is preferred
- Proficiency in SolidWorks for mechanical design and simulation; experience with AutoCAD and COMSOL is a plus
- Strong foundation in mechanics, physics, and engineering principles
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or C/C++, with experience interfacing software with electronic devices, sensors, and data acquisition systems
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong communication skills, work ethic, and ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary team
- Successful completion of a background check
Preferred:
- Experience in the design and fabrication of microfluidic systems
- Experience with microfabrication techniques
- Experience with resin- and/or filament-based 3D printing technologies
- Experience designing molds for injection molding applications
- Experience operating or working with injection molding equipment
- Experience operating machine shop equipment, including lathes
- Experience in cell culture, cell encapsulation, and cell engineering is a plus
Salary and Benefits
Salary Range: $68,000 – $75,000 per year
