Schedule: Full-time, approximately 40 hours per week
Location and Travel: This position is based in Coon Rapids on non-travel days. The employee will travel with provider twice per month to Baxter, MN, and twice per month to St. Croix Falls, WI.
Duties and Responsibilities -
- Work alongside the provider to document patient examinations in the electronic health record, including procedure orders, electronic prescriptions, and return-to-clinic scheduling.
- Obtain medical and ophthalmic histories as needed.
- Provide exceptional patient care while following all HIPAA guidelines and procedures.
- Properly open and close examination rooms and testing equipment.
- Clean and disinfect examination rooms and equipment according to established protocols.
- Dispense medication and over-the-counter product samples as directed.
- Use the inventory management system to dispense retina medications.
- Print and dispense eyeglass and contact lens prescriptions as directed.
- Review chart notes and correspondence daily to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Ensure chart documentation meets ICD-10 requirements.
- Schedule follow-up appointments and send referrals through the electronic health record to outside providers.
- Close the referral loop by confirming that referrals were received and patients were scheduled.
- Assist the technician team with special testing when requested by the provider.
- Sterilize instruments when required.
- The required twice per month travel to Baxter, MN and twice per month to St. Croix Falls, WI.
Preferred Qualifications -
- Previous medical experience or a medical background is preferred.
- This position involves working with a busy, high-volume medical retina ophthalmologist. The ideal candidate is professional, dependable, and possesses excellent communication skills.
- Candidates must be able to work independently and interact effectively with physicians, patients, and team members.
