Responsibilities
- Conduct patient intake by gathering medical histories, verifying insurance information, and updating electronic health records using EMR systems such as Epic.
- Measure vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen levels to assist in thorough patient assessments.
- Perform diagnostic tests such as visual acuity assessments, intraocular pressure measurements, and slit-lamp examinations with aseptic technique.
- Assist ophthalmologists during exams by setting up equipment, maintaining sterile conditions, and documenting findings accurately.
- Manage medical records with precision, ensuring HIPAA compliance and confidentiality at all times.
- Support front desk operations by scheduling appointments, answering patient inquiries, and handling retail sales of eye care products when appropriate.
- Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment, adhering to infection control protocols and ensuring all equipment is properly sanitized.
Requirements
- 1 year prior experience in ophthalmology clinics is required.
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology related to eye health and vision care.
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Epic or similar platforms for documentation and record keeping.
- Ability to perform intake procedures efficiently while demonstrating excellent patient care skills.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and data security are maintained at all times.
- Experience with optical equipment, such as Humphrey Visual Field, IOL Master, Scanning Computerized Ophthalmic Diagnostic Imaging and other necessary testing.
