Early Childhood Music & Performing Arts Teaching Artist (Part-Time)

Schedule: 1-hour sessions, 3 days/week (3 hours total)
Pay Rate: $28–$30/hour
Laurissa Jane Music Performing Arts Program (LJMS) is seeking a trauma-informed Teaching Artist to lead engaging music and performing arts sessions for children ages 3–6 at a contracted NYC site.
This position is ideal for an educator who is passionate about using the arts to support early childhood development, emotional wellness, and creative expression in a structured, nurturing environment.
Program Overview
LJMS delivers hands-on, developmentally appropriate expressive arts programming that builds creativity, confidence, and self-expression. Through music and performance-based learning, students engage in activities that promote social-emotional growth, critical thinking, and imaginative play.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate 1-hour sessions, 3 days per week
- Lead engaging, age-appropriate activities including:
- Singing & vocal exploration
- Movement & dance
- Creative dramatics & performance
- Puppetry & storytelling
- Implement trauma-informed practices to ensure a safe and inclusive environment
- Foster a positive classroom culture that supports participation and confidence
- Introduce students to diverse musical styles and cultural art forms
- Develop and implement age-appropriate lesson plans and curriculum
- Manage classroom behavior effectively using supportive strategies
- Provide and maintain all necessary materials and supplies (subject to ACS approval)
Qualifications
- Experience working with early childhood (ages 3–6)
- Background in music, theater, dance, or expressive arts education
- Understanding of trauma-informed care and practices
- Strong classroom management and engagement skills
- Ability to adapt instruction to meet varying developmental needs
