Duties
- Safely operate a variety of commercial vehicles including tractor-trailers, refrigerated trailers, on over-the-road (OTR) routes and local deliveries
- Load and unload freight at different facilities in a safe manner
- Plan routes using GPS navigation systems to optimize delivery times while adhering to DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations and safety standards
- Transport goods efficiently while maintaining adherence to FMCSA regulations, DOT rules
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety, including checking for mechanical issues and verifying load security
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, cargo documentation, and delivery records in compliance with FMCSA regulations
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and clients regarding delivery schedules, delays, or issues during transit
Skills
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving with a focus on route driving, delivery driving, or freight transportation
- Strong knowledge of truck loading/unloading procedures and logistics cargo handling techniques
- Familiarity with operating refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, dump trucks, and roll-off trucks
- Ability to navigate using GPS systems accurately across diverse routes including OTR routes
- Knowledge of FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration), DOT (Department of Transportation)
- Skilled in manual transmission operation for various truck types including tractor-trailers with manual gearboxes
- Experience with load securing techniques for different cargo
- Excellent driving record demonstrating safe driving habits over long distances and complex routes
- Strong understanding of safety protocols related to commercial truck driving and vehicle maintenance
