GIRLS WRESTLING - VARSITY ASSISTANT COACH

Los Alamitos Unified School District seeks qualified candidates for Girls Wrestling - Varsity Assistant Coach at
Los Alamitos High School. Under the direction of the program’s Varsity Head Coach, an Assistant Coach is
responsible for supporting the overall vision of leadership, organization, supervision, and development of the
high school athletic program in the assigned sport.
Position Summary
An Assistant Coach helps lead the team they are coaching, promote student-athlete growth and
sportsmanship, and ensure compliance with District, league, CIF, and applicable state requirements. This
position serves in a support coaching capacity and is distinguished from a Head Coach or Varsity Head Coach
by its limited responsibility for parent and community communications. Incumbents are not responsible for
addressing, investigating, or resolving parent concerns, complaints, or grievances related to the athletic
program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide leadership for the team they are assigned to.
- Support the vision, culture, expectations, and standards for the sport’s program.
- Implement instruction that supports skill development, teamwork, conditioning, sportsmanship, and
character.
- Promote student participation and retention for the team they are assigned to.
- Communicate effectively with student-athletes and the Varsity Head Coach
- Promote positive conduct, appropriate supervision, and student safety at practices, contests, travel, and
team events.
- Serve as a positive role model and teach the principles of good sportsmanship, respect, citizenship,
and competitive integrity.
Knowledge of
- Rules, strategies, techniques, and conditioning methods for the assigned sport
- High school athletics program administration
- CIF, league, and District athletic regulations
- Student supervision, risk management, and safety practices
- Effective communication and leadership practices for high school athletics
Ability to
- Support a positive, collaborative coaching culture for that team
- Communicate clearly and professionally with athletes, the head coach and, the varsity head coach
- Model professionalism, integrity, and sound judgment
Minimum Qualifications
- Demonstrated successful coaching experience in the assigned sport, preferably at the high school level
- Experience leading or coordinating athletic programs preferred
- Knowledge of adolescent development and appropriate coaching practices
- Ability to meet District and legal requirements for athletic coaching assignments
