The Laboratory Assistant performs a variety of laboratory duties within the assigned department, in order to provide appropriate service levels to both internal and external customers.
The Laboratory Assistant I will be proficient in one of the following, the Laboratory Assistant II will be proficient in two of the following, and a Laboratory Assistant III will be proficient in all of the following:
- Laboratory Customer Service
- Phlebotomy
Specimen Processing

Education/Accredited Programs
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Phlebotomy experience preferred
Experience in a Healthcare/Customer Service Environment or similar setting preferred

Skills/Abilities:
- Medical Terminology preferred
- Proficient in keyboarding
- Ability to use a computer and required applications
- Ability to read, analyze, interpret business documents, policies and procedures
- Ability to effectively communicate both directly and via phone/email sensitive information and respond to questions from patients, customers, provider, coworkers, and vendors
- Ability to recognize and solve basic problems regarding area of responsibility and to refer involved issues to the department supervisor
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers
- Ability to work under stressful situations and able withstand the sight of blood
- Ability to prioritize tasks
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in simple written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to read and comprehend departmental SOPS and safety manuals
Ability to utilize basic ordering and inquiry functions within the Laboratory Information System

Salary Range
The expected base rate for this Glens Falls, New York, United States-based position is $18.00 to $27.00 per hour. Exact rate is determined on a case-by-case basis commensurate with experience level, as well as education and certifications pertaining to each position which may be above the listed job requirements.
