Do you get a quiet satisfaction from knowing your drawing is exactly right — not approximately right, but precisely, unambiguously right?Do you see a schematic as more than a diagram — a commitment between engineering intent and the hands that will build it?When a colleague asks a technical question, are you the one who already knows the answer?Do you hold your own documentation to a higher standard than anyone would ask you to?If this sounds like you, then we need to talk…
Frazer, Ltd. is a leading builder of custom emergency medical vehicles and mobile healthcare units, headquartered in Sugar Land, TX with production operations in Houston. We're currently seeking an Electrical Drafter II to join our Engineering team at the Rampart St. facility. This role sits at the intersection of design precision and manufacturing execution — translating engineering intent into the documentation that our production team relies on every day to build vehicles that serve first responders and communities across the country.
What Does a Week in the Life of the Electrical Drafter II Look Like?
-
Opens AutoCAD Electrical and picks up where the latest schematic revision left off — cross-referencing the redline against production feedback to resolve a component placement conflict before the day's first standup.
-
Pulls up the Inventor Vault to check out controlled drawings for a new vehicle build, confirms BOM accuracy against the ERP item master, and flags a discrepancy to Purchasing before it turns into a procurement delay.
-
Walks over to the shop floor to answer a wiring question from an assembler — spends 15 minutes there and comes back with two action items to improve the documentation before the next build.
-
Generates a complete documentation package for an upcoming assembly, including wiring diagrams, component specs, and installation instructions, then routes it for engineering review.
-
Estimates material costs for a proposed design variant and sends a clean summary to the Engineering Manager to support a scope decision.
-
Reviews and updates an existing work instruction flagged during a quality walkthrough — tightens the language, adds a visual reference, and re-publishes the controlled document.
-
Attends the daily staff meeting, gives a brief status on open drawing tasks, and leaves with a clear priority order for the rest of the week.
Required Education and Experience:
-
3+ years of experience working alongside engineering professionals in a manufacturing or technical environment.
-
Associate's degree in Engineering Technology or a related technical field.
-
Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical and demonstrated ability to work within an Autodesk Inventor Vault environment.
-
Experience collaborating across engineering disciplines — electrical, structural, automotive, or certification.
-
Working knowledge of ERP/MRP system utilization and engineering documentation standards.
-
Strong written communication skills for technical documentation, reports, and specifications.
Preferred Education and Experience:
-
Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology or a related technical field.
-
Experience with ERP systems in a manufacturing environment (e.g., SYSPRO, SAP, or similar).
-
Familiarity with specialty vehicle, automotive, or emergency medical equipment manufacturing.
Skills (to Pay the Bills)
Here's a list of a few competencies that the Electrical Drafter II at Frazer should have…
-
You're precise by nature — a single wrong wire reference keeps you up at night, and you wouldn't release a drawing you weren't personally satisfied with.
-
You're technically fluent in AutoCAD Electrical and comfortable owning the Vault environment end to end.
-
You think in systems — you see how your drawing connects to the BOM, the ERP, the assembler's hands, and the customer's vehicle.
-
You work independently without needing someone to sequence your day — you know what's due, in what order, and why.
-
You communicate with engineers, operators, and procurement staff in whatever language the situation requires — clear, specific, and without jargon that doesn't serve the reader.
