Specific Job Function
We are seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Engineering Manager to lead a small team while remaining actively involved in engineering design, equipment development, testing, and manufacturing improvement initiatives. This role will focus on equipment upgrades, process improvements, tooling and fixture design, automation initiatives, and manufacturing support for our water filtration products.
The ideal candidate is a practical mechanical engineering leader who enjoys spending time on the manufacturing floor, partnering with production teams, and directly contributing to engineering solutions rather than leading from behind a desk. This position manages a small team while remaining actively involved in engineering design, equipment development, testing, and continuous improvement efforts.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and refinement of manufacturing processes to enhance productivity and product quality.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design engineering, quality assurance, and supply chain to ensure seamless integration of manufacturing plans.
- Analyze building codes, construction regulations, and safety standards to ensure compliance across all manufacturing facilities.
- Utilize building information modeling (BIM) tools and 3D CAD modeling software to plan layout optimizations and facility upgrades.
- Oversee technical proficiency within the team by providing training on advanced manufacturing techniques and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct building code analysis to identify potential compliance issues and implement corrective actions proactively.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives by applying lean manufacturing principles, data analysis, and innovative problem-solving strategies.
Manufacturing Engineering & Operational Support
- Lead projects related to manufacturing equipment upgrades, automation, tooling, fixtures, and production process improvements.
- Design and develop custom machinery, fixtures, and production equipment that improve efficiency, quality, safety, and throughput.
- Partner closely with production and Continuous Improvement teams to identify operational challenges and implement practical engineering solutions.
- Troubleshoot equipment and manufacturing issues and implement sustainable corrective actions.
- Support root cause investigations related to equipment, processes, and product quality.
- Work with external vendors, integrators, toolmakers, and equipment suppliers on equipment purchases, modifications, and installations.
- Support capital equipment planning, implementation, and qualification projects.
Product & Manufacturing Support
- Support introduction of new products into manufacturing.
- Drive design-for-manufacturability improvements and cost reduction initiatives.
- Collaborate with quality, supply chain, production, and sales teams to improve product performance and manufacturing efficiency.
- Support product testing, validation activities, and engineering documentation.
- Ensure test results are documented and used to drive design improvements.
Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required.
- 5+ years of engineering experience in manufacturing, machine design, mechanical design, equipment development, or related fields.
- Previous experience leading projects, mentoring engineers, or supervising technical personnel preferred.
- Experience working in manufacturing or industrial production environments required.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in CAD tools such as Creo or SolidWorks (3D modeling & detailed 2Ddrawings with GD&T).
- Experience designing mechanical equipment, tooling, fixtures, or production machinery.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and design-for-manufacturing principles.
- Experience supporting equipment installations, upgrades, troubleshooting, and process improvements.
- Familiarity with automation, pneumatics, fluid systems, or controls is a plus.
Professional Skills
- Hands-on problem solver who enjoys working directly with equipment and production teams.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Effective communicator with the ability to work cross-functionally.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Self-starter capable of driving projects with minimal oversight.
