American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Stroke/Neuro PCU position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital, requiring Epic experience and active VA or Compact RN license.

Work setting is a large acute care, Level I Trauma Center, Magnet-designated teaching hospital in Roanoke, VA
-
Unit is a telemetry PCU (12 West) specializing in stroke, neurology, and hospitalist medicine patients
-
Joint Commission certified primary stroke center
-
Typical patient ratio is 1:5 with a staffing goal of 1:4
-
IV drips managed include Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose Dopamine/Dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, and Ketamine (no titration required)

Remote telemetry monitoring with tele sitting implemented to support Patient Care Tech coverage

Primary schedule is 3x12-hour night shifts (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM); 4x12 schedule available by request

Epic EMR experience is required

Weekend requirement is every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block

Floating within skillset is required

One holiday must be worked per 13-week contract

Active Virginia state or Compact RN license currently in hand (pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state)

Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Neuro PCU or Stroke/Neuro unit experience required

Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and emergency response
-
Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care

Medication administration experience including cardiac drips

Respiratory support skills including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management

Experience with isolation precautions and telemetry across PCU, IMC, and stepdown settings

Epic EMR experience required

Two professional references required for consideration

Valid driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration

Provide nursing care to stroke, neurology, and hospitalist medicine patients in a telemetry PCU environment

First-time travelers are welcome to apply, though travel experience is preferred
