We are currently recruiting a Material Handler to join our team in Commack, NY!
The Material Handler will play a crucial role in supporting our Production and Warehouse departments. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a warehouse or manufacturing type of environment however; we are willing to train!
- Reads production schedule, customer order, work order, shipping order, or requisition to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed
- Conveys materials between buildings and departments as required for production. Transports to storage or to other designated areas
- Sorts and places materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined sequence such as size, type, style, color, or product code
- Fills requisitions, work orders, or requests for materials, tools, or other stock items and distributes items to the production floor
- Assembles customer orders from stock and places orders on pallets or shelves,or conveys orders to packing station or shipping department
- Marks materials with identifying information
- Opens bales, crates, and other containers
- Records amount of materials or items received or distributed
- Weighs or counts items for distribution within the plant to ensure conformance to company standards
- Arrange stock parts in specified sequence for assembly by other workers
- Compiles worksheets or tickets from customer specifications
- Drivers lift trucks to transport stored items throughout the plant or to pick up items from department locations for shipment
- Maintains inventory records
- All other duties as assigned
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- One year of experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment, printing or packaging industry experience preferred
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to read and interpret rulers, scales, and other measurement devices.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment (24-hour turnaround on product)
- Aptitude for mechanical operation
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Must be able to lift/move up to 50 pounds with or without mechanical assistance
- Excellent attendance and punctuality - accurately record work time on a daily basis
