Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and organized Medical Assistant with an excellent knowledge of Authorization/Referral to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be the first point of contact for patients, providing essential administrative support in a fast-paced medical environment. This role requires excellent communication skills and a strong understanding of medical terminology, as well as the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently while ensuring a positive patient experience.
Duties
- Greet patients and visitors in a friendly and professional manner.
- Schedule appointments and manage the calendar for healthcare providers.
- Verify patient information and insurance details prior to appointments.
- Maintain accurate patient records and ensure compliance with privacy regulations.
- Ensure timely notification and request for authorization/referrals is handled in accordance with departmental policy and payor requirements.
- Maintaining confidentiality, verify patient demographics, insurance eligibility, benefits, and financial responsibility.
- Ability of request/obtain authorizations/referrals for assigned specialties and be able to cover for most specialties.
- Contact and interview families in person or by phone contact to obtain necessary information and assist them with insurance issues that may be preventing authorization/referrals.
- Clearly document all communications and contacts with payors and families in standardized documentation requirements including proper format
- Assist with medical administrative support tasks including filing, data entry, and managing correspondence.
- Coordinate with medical staff to facilitate patient care and ensure smooth clinic operations.
- Handle incoming calls and respond to inquiries regarding services, procedures, and office policies.
- Prepare examination rooms and assist with basic patient care as needed.
- Support medication administration processes under the supervision of healthcare professionals.
- Collaborate with various departments including dermatology, urgent care, internal medicine, and hospital medicine.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in medical administration is a plus.
- Previous experience in a medical office setting is preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of anatomy, medical-surgical procedures, and terminology related to Surgery including urgent care will be beneficial.
- Willingness to learn new skills as needed by the practice will be beneficial.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in managing patient records.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients, families, and healthcare providers.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism.
- Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems is an advantage.
