Job Summary
The Literacy Liberator Activity Coordinator supports the implementation of Literacy Liberators by leading engaging, structured literacy enrichment activities for groups of approximately 10–15 elementary students while tutors provide targeted reading intervention. This position creates a safe, positive, and engaging learning environment where students build literacy skills through hands-on activities, cooperative learning, and evidence-based instructional practices.
The Activity Coordinator works closely with tutors, school staff, and program leadership to ensure students remain engaged, learning spaces are well organized, and daily program operations run smoothly. This position requires someone who enjoys working with children, can effectively manage groups, and is able to adapt activities to meet the varying needs of students.
Paid Fellowship Training
All Literacy Liberator Tutors participate in the Literacy Liberators Fellowship, a paid professional development experience prior to working with students.
The Fellowship includes three-week paid training beginning September 8, 2026, Monday through Friday during scheduled program hours. Program hours are Monday - Thursday 1:00 - 5:00 pm and Friday 11:00 am - 3 pm.
Responsibilities:
The Activities Coordinator is responsible for supporting daily literacy programming and student engagement at assigned school sites. Key responsibilities include:
- Lead literacy enrichment activities for groups of approximately 10–15 students.
- Facilitate engaging activities that strengthen reading, writing, vocabulary, language development, and comprehension.
- Create a welcoming, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
- Supervise students during programming and use positive behavior management strategies.
- Monitor student engagement and adjust activities to meet student needs.
- Prepare instructional materials and organize learning spaces before each session.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom environment.
- Track daily student attendance and participation.
- Assist with basic program documentation and data collection.
- Communicate observations about student engagement and behavior with tutors and program staff.
- Collaborate with tutors, school staff, and program leadership to support daily operations.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and required trainings.
- Support other program operations as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED required. College coursework or a degree in Education or a related field is preferred but not required.
- Experience: Previous tutoring, mentoring, youth development, or education experience is helpful but not required.

Other Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
- Must pass required background checks.
- Must be proficient in English.
- Ability to work approximately 1:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. Friday.
- Ability to commit to the full school year (September 8, 2026 – May 21, 2027).
- Reliable transportation to assigned school site(s).
- Willingness to be placed at any participating school within the Reynolds School District.
Physical Environment
While performing the duties of this position, the employee will regularly:
- Work onsite at elementary schools.
- Stand, walk, and move throughout classrooms during instruction.
- Sit with students during small-group lessons.
- Regularly use instructional materials and technology.
- Communicate clearly with students, families, and school staff.
- Lift and carry instructional materials weighing up to 15 pounds without assistance.
Pay: $23.00 per hour
