ACME Gridley Machine Operator/Setup
Reports To: Production Supervisor
Classification: Non-Exempt
Position Summary
The ACME Machine Operator/Setup is responsible for setting up, operating, monitoring, and adjusting production equipment to manufacture parts that meet established quality, safety, and productivity standards. This position performs changeovers, verifies machine settings, inspects finished parts, troubleshoots routine operating issues, and maintains accurate production records.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Review work orders, drawings, specifications, and setup instructions before beginning production.
· Set up machines using the proper tooling, attachments, guides, feeds, speeds, and material for each job.
· Perform machine changeovers and verify first-piece approval before starting full production.
· Load raw material, start equipment, and monitor machine operation throughout the production run.
· Make routine adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy, product quality, and production efficiency.
· Inspect parts using appropriate gauges and precision measuring tools, such as calipers and micrometers.
· Identify defects, equipment malfunctions, or process variations and take appropriate corrective action within the scope of training.
· Notify the supervisor or maintenance team when repairs or technical support are required.
· Complete production, quality, scrap, downtime, and material documentation accurately and on time.
· Perform routine cleaning, lubrication, and basic preventive maintenance as assigned.
· Follow all safety procedures, including required personal protective equipment and lockout/tagout requirements.
· Maintain a clean, organized work area and support company housekeeping standards.
· Assist with training other operators when assigned.
· Perform other related duties as needed to support production operations.
Required Qualifications
· Previous ACME Experience
· Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to learn machine setup and operating procedures.
· Ability to read and follow work instructions, drawings, specifications, and safety procedures.
· Basic math skills, including the ability to work with decimals and standard measurements.
· Ability to use common inspection tools and accurately record production information.
· Strong attention to detail, dependability, and commitment to quality.
· Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a team environment.
· Experience performing machine setups, tooling changes, or production changeovers.
· Experience using calipers, micrometers, gauges, or similar precision measuring instruments.
· Familiarity with lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, or basic preventive maintenance practices.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Understanding of safe machine operation and shop practices.
· Ability to recognize abnormal machine conditions, quality concerns, and production interruptions.
· Effective troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to communicate clearly with supervisors, maintenance personnel, quality staff, and coworkers.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining safe and accurate work practices.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during the shift.
· Ability to frequently bend, reach, grasp, push, and pull while operating equipment and handling materials.
· Ability to lift and move materials or parts up to the weight established by company policy, with assistance or lifting equipment when required.
· Ability to wear required personal protective equipment and work safely around moving machinery, noise, oils, and other typical manufacturing conditions.
