Job Description - Truck Driver:
Under the supervision of the Dispatcher, the Truck Drivers’s major responsibilities are, but not limited to:
1. Quality Objective – To assure that all product is loaded and delivered without damage and in a safe and timely manner
2. Function -
A. Deliver product to jobsite in a safe and efficient manner
B. Assist in the loading of trucks and hauling out of material
C. Confer all shipping activities with the Dispatcher and/or Yard Supervisor
3. General duties and responsibilities -
A. Assist in the daily loading of delivery trucks
B. Assist with and fill out check list on all hardware sheets
C. Inspect all structures for quality after they are loaded onto truck; assure that product has not been damaged from previous setting in the storage yard or loading onto vehicle
D. Inspect all lifting chains and equipment for fatigue and use proper size lift truck or boom for job
E. Assure that structures have proper identification. Ex. sales order number, structure number, date produced and Champion logo, in a neat and readable manner
F. Check for proper step location and mastic if needed
G. Emphasize safety in the operation of all tools and forklifts assigned to your area
H. Assist in the manufacturing of product as production so calls
Quality control
A. Document and report to the Plant Manager any and all irregularities in quality after taking the necessary corrective actions; identify the cause for same
B. Investigate the cause of any quality defects that would develop
C. Check shop drawings against product being shipped. Assure that product requested is what is being shipped
4. Safety and security -
A. Enforce all company safety policies and encourage safe work habits
B. Maintain the highest standards of cleanliness for the equipment; perform regular inspections of these vehicles and take necessary actions; help with keeping the yard in good shape
C. Keep work areas free of clutter and tools. Good housekeeping habits must be continuously emphasized and enforced.
D. Maintain all assigned hand tools and equipment.
E. Assist in the training of new drivers.
5. Communication -
A. Develop and maintain a working relationship among supervisors and team members that enhances teamwork, motivation and high morale.
6. Physical requirements -
A. Position requires climbing, standing or bending for long periods of time
B. Must be able to lift and maneuver heavy lifting chains and straps
C. Occasionally lift and push 100 pounds (max) and pull 92 pounds (max)
D. Clear, unobscured forward and lateral vision
E. Requires use of a mobile phone
F. Must have Class A CDL operators license, clean MVR, and DOT medical card
G. Must be able to operate an automobile, boomtruck, and tractor with a flatbed trailer
H. Must be able to read training manuals, operating procedures, road maps and directions, delivery tickets, and shop drawings
