Pay: $66,300 + incentive pay

Job Overview
We’re seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Assistant General Manager to help lead daily store operations. This role is the bridge between Budtenders and the General Manager — you’ll oversee staff, maintain compliance, foster and build business relationships and partnerships, ensure smooth, efficient store operations, and aim to grow customer base and sales through creative and community based events and activations.
This position requires strong leadership, excellent self-motivation & organizational skills, and a proven track record in retail environments and offers a pathway for internal growth.
Responsibilities
Store Operations
- Oversee opening and closing procedures, including safe counts, cash reconciliation, and POS accuracy and serve as point person for on-the-floor operations such as customer interaction, sales, regulatory inspections, etc.
- Manage the retail tech stack: POS, e-commerce menu, pricing, promotions, in-stock accuracy, store hours, and platform integrations.
- Work with in-house graphic designer to develop promotional materials and email/text campaigns through loyalty program for deals, promotions, holiday events, etc.
- Maintain compliance with all cash-handling protocols and state/local cannabis regulations.
- Maintain accurate display materials (price cards, product displays, digital signage, brand signage, etc), help refine merchandising.
- Coordinate with A/P to ensure financial records remain accurate, invoices are recorded and sent in a timely manner.
- Assist in managing distributor and brand-rep relationships: deliveries, in-store demos, sample handling, and promotional buy-ins, brand stop-ins.
- Ensure the sales floor and back-of-house remain clean, organized, and fully compliant.
- Monitor store supplies/incidentals and order when necessary.
- Assist in creating schedule based on store needs.
Customer Service & Sales Support
- Set the service standard for budtender consults (education, format and dosing tradeoffs, category recommendations) and coach to it on every shift
- Support Budtenders with customer flow, escalated questions, and challenging interactions.
- Own website, email, Google, and storefront reviews
- Resolve escalated customer complaints
Compliance & Inventory
- Enforce state and local cannabis regulations and company policies consistently
- Enforce ID and age verification, daily purchase limits, and assist in any state-required visit / buyer-tracking rules at every point of sale
- Assist in cash handling and reconciliation: vault counts, register tills, drops, deposits; investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Assist in maintaining a regulator-ready compliance binder: SOPs, training logs, surveillance retention, incident reports, and METRC records
- Assist in running the seed-to-sale system (METRC): inbound transfers and manifests, package tagging, daily sales reporting, and waste / destruction events
- Assist with inventory tasks, including receiving product, conducting stock checks, and resolving discrepancies, executing product recalls, hold-and-destroy events, and waste documentation per state protocol; train staff on incident escalation.
- Maintain merchandising standards and help execute promotional displays.
Leadership & Staff
- Train, evaluate, and discipline staff as needed.
- Assist in hiring and support training for new hires, contribute to ongoing staff development.
- Model professional conduct.
Community & Marketing
- Maintain and continue to build partnerships with adjacent businesses (restaurants, bars, hotels, gyms, wellness studios, music venues, salons, galleries) through cross-promotions, referral programs, and joint events.
- Schedule brand activations & pop-ups when applicable.
- Spend time cultivating relationships with community members at local businesses and community events.
- Maintain Google Business Profile, Yelp, and email / SMS through the loyalty platform.
- Assist in planning and running the promotional calendar (daily deals, happy hour, launch promos, loyalty events) alongside GM.
Requirements
- Must be 21+.
- College diploma or equivalent required.
- 3–5+ years of management experience in licensed cannabis retail, regulated retail (alcohol, pharmacy), specialty retail, or premium hospitality.
- Working proficiency with the cannabis retail tech stack: POS (Alleaves, Dutchie, Treez, Flowhub, or similar), seed-to-sale (METRC), e-commerce menu integrations (AIQ, Dutchie, Leafly, Weedmaps), and standard productivity tools (Google Workspace or Microsoft 365)
- Strong written, and verbal communication; comfort representing the store publicly to media, regulators, vendors, and community partners
- Strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable with cash handling and other detailed procedures.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Open availability including mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and high-volume days
- Able to pass all required state compliance checks and complete the state-mandated responsible-vendor / cannabis-employee training within 30 days of hire (or current valid certification at time of hire)
Bonus Skills (Not Required, But Valuable)
- Social media or content creation experience.
- Graphic design skills (Canva, Adobe, CapCut, etc.).
- Bilingual abilities.
