Summary:
This position is responsible for the overall supervision of each of these areas as related to staff, programs, budgeting and safety.
Essential Responsibilities:
· Model and promote the organization’s mission, values, and guiding principles through appropriate appearance, words, and actions; and comply with the organization’s policies and procedures.
· Engage in opportunities to positively interact with members leading to a positive member experience.
· Use excellent customer service skills to establish and maintain relationships with members and the general public.
· Participate in staffing major SYJCC programs or events outside of the department when assigned.
· May be assigned other duties.
· Provide effective operational guidance to the fitness team (personal trainers and group fitness instructors) to successfully execute fitness programs to achieve a competitive advantage.
· Work collaboratively across the agency to create opportunities to grow member count through high quality interactions and programs designed to drive overall member engagement
· Stays up to date on trends to create a robust offering of programs and activities that will engage and keep families and individuals connected to the SYJCC.
· Teach a minimum of 5 group exercise classes per week.
· Personal train clients (private or semi-private) an average of 10 hours/week.
· Create a positive, team-oriented work environment by motivating and inspiring associates to achieve their best and continue to serve as a role model for others.
· Recruit, interview, hire, supervise, discipline and terminate staff.
· Ensure proper area staffing (personal trainers and group fitness) with high level talent by recruiting, training, and developing team. A high-performance team focuses on delivering quality member experience while creating an environment of trust, mutual respect, and a genuine concern for individual growth and development.
· Coordination and oversight of fitness center and group fitness spaces.
· Lead department staff meetings, organize personal training and group fitness staff training.
· Responsible for reconciling payroll with third party software.
· Work cooperatively with facility maintenance department and outside services regarding any necessary repairs within the department.
· Enforce Suffolk Y policies, rules, and regulations always.
· Inspect fitness areas daily, ensuring safety and cleanliness.
· Acting On-Duty Building Supervisor on a weekend day and at least one weeknight.
· Monitor and manage all staff certifications to be current.
· Propose new business lines that will contribute to an increase in ancillary net revenue.
· Recognize emergencies and respond effectively, completing necessary incident / accident reports.
· Purchase and maintain appropriate inventory of needed supplies and equipment for the fitness department.
· Reviews department profit loss statements and interprets suggestive data. Develop action plans accordingly.
· In conjunction with the SYJCC’s marketing and communications department, assists in the development of fitness and wellness advertising and promotional plan that builds program and event participation.
· Responsible for updating website, schedule of classes, and communication of changes to the membership as needed.
Pay: $31.25 - $33.65 per hour

Work Location: In person
