CONFIDENTIAL SEARCH
A large, established construction and infrastructure services company operating across North America is seeking a Fleet Director. The hiring organization will be identified to candidates during the interview process, and all inquiries are handled in strict confidence.
FLEET DIRECTOR
The Fleet Director leads all fleet operations across a multi-site region, with accountability for a mixed fleet of light-, medium-, and heavy-duty vehicles, specialty construction equipment, and trailers supporting field crews across multiple states. This role owns maintenance strategy and shop performance, DOT and regulatory compliance, telematics and fleet technology, asset lifecycle and capital planning, vendor and rental partnerships, and total cost of ownership. The ideal candidate is a hands-on operational leader who is credible with shop technicians and superintendents and equally effective presenting capital plans and cost analysis to executive leadership. Candidates must currently reside in the Phoenix metropolitan area or be established locally prior to start. Regular travel to field locations and shops within the region is required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
-
Lead regional fleet operations across multiple sites, shops, and yards, including direct and indirect oversight of fleet managers, shop supervisors, technicians, and administrative staff
-
Own the regional fleet maintenance strategy — preventive maintenance programs, repair standards, shop scheduling, warranty recovery, and equipment uptime targets
-
Manage total cost of ownership: acquisition, utilization, maintenance and repair spend, and disposal
-
Develop and execute asset lifecycle and capital replacement plans; build annual fleet capital and operating budgets and manage to them
-
Ensure full compliance with DOT and FMCSA regulations
-
Implement and optimize fleet technology — telematics, GPS, fleet management information systems, work order and asset tracking platforms
-
Establish KPIs and reporting on utilization, availability, downtime, PM compliance, and technician productivity; reporting to operations leadership
-
Manage supplier, dealer, rental, and third-party maintenance relationships
-
Partner closely with operations leadership to forecast equipment needs, allocate assets across projects, and support project mobilization and demobilization
-
Drive fleet standardization, and specification development in alignment with enterprise standards
-
Build, coach, and develop a high-performing fleet team; establish succession depth for key shop and management roles
-
Lead continuous improvement initiatives that reduce downtime, control cost, and improve field productivity
-
Other responsibilities as assigned

10-15 years of progressive fleet management experience, including 5+ years in a senior leadership or people-manager role with multi-site accountability
