Pay: $130–$325 per day
Hourly equivalent: Approximately $20–$50 per hour based on experience and demonstrated ability
Schedule: Approximately 5:30 AM–12:00 PM
Job type: Independent contractor (1099)
Service area: Linden, NJ and surrounding client locations
About the Opportunity
TireVault is a growing mobile fleet automotive service company supporting major corporate fleet clients.
This is different from a traditional repair-shop position. You will perform maintenance, diagnostics and repairs at client locations while representing TireVault professionally. You must be able to work independently, accurately diagnose vehicle problems and clearly communicate your findings.
We are looking for an experienced, dependable B-level automotive technician—not simply the first available applicant. The right contractor will take ownership of assigned work, arrive on time and complete repairs correctly without requiring constant supervision.
TireVault provides a service vehicle and core company equipment. Contractors must also own and bring the personal hand tools appropriate for their trade.
Responsibilities
- Perform mobile automotive maintenance, diagnostics and repairs on fleet vehicles.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, starting, charging and drivability concerns.
- Diagnose and repair automotive HVAC and A/C systems, including compressors and related components.
- Perform tire inspections, tire changes, rotations and tire repairs.
- Complete preventive maintenance, oil services, brake repairs and common steering and suspension repairs.
- Test batteries, alternators and electrical systems.
- Identify the actual cause of a failure before recommending or replacing parts.
- Inspect surrounding components for additional safety or reliability concerns.
- Provide clear repair findings, recommendations, photographs and documentation.
- Communicate promptly when additional parts, authorization or technical assistance is required.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Properly care for the assigned TireVault service vehicle and company equipment.
- Communicate professionally with TireVault’s operations team and client representatives.
Required Qualifications
- At least three years of professional automotive repair experience.
- B-level automotive technician capability or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Ability to independently diagnose and repair common automotive problems.
- Working knowledge of automotive electrical systems and diagnostic equipment.
- Experience servicing automotive HVAC and A/C systems.
- Tire-service experience.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Ability to safely operate a company-provided service vehicle.
- Personal automotive tools appropriate for the work being performed.
- Smartphone and ability to submit photographs and written service updates.
- Professional verbal and written communication.
- Ability to reliably begin assignments at approximately 5:30 AM.
- Ability to work without constant supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
- Mobile mechanic or fleet maintenance experience.
- Experience servicing commercial vans or delivery vehicles.
- Strong HVAC diagnostic and compressor-replacement experience.
- Electrical diagnostic experience using scan tools, multimeters and wiring diagrams.
- Brake, suspension, steering and preventive-maintenance experience.
- ASE certifications or equivalent technical training.
- Automotive glass or windshield repair and replacement experience.
Automotive glass experience is a major plus but is not required.
You’ll Thrive Here If…
- You arrive on time and can be counted on consistently.
- You communicate early when a problem or delay occurs.
- You diagnose vehicles instead of replacing parts based on guesses.
- You can plan and complete your work without constant supervision.
- You are honest about your current abilities.
- You ask questions when appropriate and are willing to learn.
- You provide clear photographs and repair documentation.
- You understand how to behave professionally at a major client’s location.
- You keep your tools, work area and service vehicle organized.
- You take ownership of unfinished work and follow through until there is a clear resolution.
This Probably Isn’t for You If…
- Early-morning attendance will be difficult for you.
- You frequently call out, arrive late or miss scheduled assignments.
- You need someone constantly checking every step of your work.
- Your diagnostic process is replacing parts until the problem disappears.
- You take unsafe shortcuts.
- You leave work unfinished without communicating what is still needed.
- You resist taking photographs or providing written repair notes.
- You are uncomfortable communicating with professional fleet clients.
- You exaggerate your technical ability instead of being honest about what you can handle.
- You expect to rely exclusively on company tools.
Compensation
Compensation ranges from approximately $130–$325 per scheduled day, equivalent to approximately $20–$50 per hour for a typical 6.5-hour service day.
The guaranteed daily rate will be established before the contractor begins and will be based on:
- Professional experience.
- Demonstrated diagnostic ability.
- Performance during a paid working assessment.
- Certifications and technical training.
- HVAC, electrical and tire-service capabilities.
- Fleet or mobile-repair experience.
- Automotive glass experience.
- Ability to work independently and communicate professionally.
The highest rate is reserved for advanced technicians who can demonstrate strong diagnostic ability and independently perform difficult mechanical, electrical, HVAC and/or automotive glass repairs.
Schedule
Typical hours are approximately 5:30 AM–12:00 PM, based on fleet availability and client operations.
Reliability during these hours is essential. Specific service days, workload and any assignments outside the normal schedule will be discussed in advance.

This is a 1099 independent-contractor opportunity, not a W-2 employee position. Contractors are responsible for their own tax obligations.
