The Controls Engineer will develop PLC and HMI programs, integrate sensors, servo drives and robotics, create control schematics in AutoCAD, and ensure systems meet safety and UL508A standards. The role requires hands-on commissioning at customer sites, close collaboration with mechanical and electrical teams, and continuous improvement of control strategies to maximize reliability and performance.
Key Responsibilities
-
Design, program, and debug PLC and HMI solutions for industrial automation projects (selection and development for Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar platforms).
-
Integrate and commission robotic systems (ABB, Fanuc) including communication, trajectories, and IO coordination with PLCs.
-
Develop and tune servo drive and motion control solutions; integrate encoders and feedback devices for precise motion.
-
Specify, select, and integrate sensors (including Keyence, Cognex vision systems), safety devices, and field devices into control architectures.
-
Produce and update electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and panel layouts using AutoCAD and prepare UL508A-compliant panel documentation.
-
Perform on-site installation, start-up, troubleshooting and commissioning of control systems; work directly with customers to validate system performance.
-
Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and project management teams to define control requirements, timelines, and deliverables.
-
Develop detailed test plans, conduct FATs (Factory Acceptance Tests), SATs (Site Acceptance Tests), and create clear commissioning and maintenance documentation for customers.
-
Implement and maintain control system standards, cybersecurity best practices for industrial networks, and continuous improvement initiatives.
-
Provide technical support and training for customers and internal teams on operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of control systems.
Qualifications
-
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Mechatronics, or related field (or equivalent experience).
-
3+ years of experience designing, programming, and commissioning industrial control systems in manufacturing or automation environments.
-
Proven experience with PLC programming and HMI development; familiarity with Allen-Bradley, Siemens or similar platforms.
-
Hands-on experience integrating robots (ABB and/or Fanuc) into automation systems and coordinating robot PLC communication.
-
Experience with servo drives, motion control, encoders, and closed-loop systems.
-
Practical experience with sensors and machine vision systems (Keyence, Cognex) for part detection, inspection and alignment.
-
Proficiency with AutoCAD for electrical schematics and panel layouts; experience preparing UL508A-compliant control panels a plus.
