Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and adaptable Travel ICU Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic healthcare team. This role involves providing specialized critical care to patients in intensive care units across various healthcare facilities, often in different geographic locations. The ideal candidate will possess extensive ICU experience, demonstrate proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic and Cerner, and have a comprehensive understanding of advanced nursing procedures. Duties
- Deliver comprehensive critical care to patients in ICU settings, including Level I and Level II trauma centers, PICUs, and emergency departments.
- Perform detailed patient assessments, monitor vital signs, and interpret physiological data to inform treatment plans.
- Administer medications and treatments such as IV infusions, ventilator management, tube feeding, and sedation protocols with precision.
- Utilize advanced clinical skills including airway management, suturing, catheterization (including cardiac catheterization), and aseptic techniques.
- Document all patient interactions accurately within EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth while adhering to HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, respiratory therapists, case managers, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
- Respond promptly to acute changes in patient condition, providing interventions for trauma medicine, infectious disease care, or acute pain management as required.
- Support discharge planning by educating patients and families on post-hospital care needs including hospice & palliative medicine considerations.
- Maintain compliance with NCQA standards and ICD coding requirements for documentation accuracy.
- Participate in ongoing training related to medical terminology updates such as ICD-10/ICD-9 coding and laboratory experience.
Experience
Candidates should possess a minimum of two years of recent ICU or critical care experience within hospital environments. Prior exposure to diverse clinical settings such as emergency medicine, medical-surgical units, outpatient clinics, or post-acute care facilities is highly desirable. Experience working with electronic health records systems like Epic or Cerner is essential. Additional preferred qualifications include:
- Proven expertise in trauma medicine at Level I or Level II trauma centers.
- Familiarity with advanced procedures such as spinal taps, gastrostomy tube management, ostomy care, or neonatal ventilators.
- Background in working with individuals with disabilities or behavioral health needs.
- Knowledge of infection control protocols and sterile processing techniques.
- Experience in specialized fields such as occupational health, geriatrics—including memory care—and long-term care environments like nursing homes or assisted living facilities.
- Strong understanding of pharmacology related to pain management and sedation protocols. This role requires excellent clinical judgment, adaptability across multiple healthcare settings—including inpatient and outpatient environments—and a commitment to delivering high-quality patient-centered care. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in medical documentation standards and possess current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
