Responsibilities
- Safely operate tractor-trailers on over-the-road routes, including refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, and tankers, following all DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations and FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) standards.
- Plan routes using GPS navigation systems to optimize delivery schedules and ensure timely arrivals.
- Load and unload freight with manual handling techniques, ensuring proper cargo securing for hazardous materials or dangerous goods when applicable.
- Deliver freight accurately across various regions, maintaining communication with dispatch for route adjustments or delivery updates.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle, checking for mechanical issues and compliance with safety standards.
- Maintain detailed logs of driving hours, cargo documentation, and delivery records in accordance with DOT regulations.
- Adhere to hazardous materials regulations when transporting dangerous goods or hazardous materials, ensuring safety protocols are followed at all times.
Skills
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving with a focus on freight delivery across long distances (OTR routes).
- Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT rules, hazardous materials regulations, and safety standards for truck driving.
- Skilled in operating manual transmission trucks and tractor-trailers equipped with refrigerated units or tanker systems.
- Proficient in GPS navigation tools for route planning and real-time tracking during deliveries.
- Ability to load and unload freight efficiently while complying with logistics cargo handling procedures.
- Experience in automobile transportation or delivery driving involving freight movement across diverse terrains.
- Excellent manual handling skills combined with a keen attention to safety during truck loading/unloading processes.
