Respiratory Therapist (RRT) – Special Care Nursery Experience

Job Summary
The Respiratory Therapist provides comprehensive respiratory care across inpatient, outpatient, and neonatal settings. This role includes performing patient assessments, administering respiratory therapies, conducting diagnostic testing, and supporting high‑risk neonatal care in the Special Care Nursery. The therapist collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, effective, and developmentally appropriate care for all patient populations.
Essential Responsibilities
- Perform respiratory assessments and deliver oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, and specialty gases
- Manage and troubleshoot CPAP/BiPAP systems and ventilator modalities
- Obtain and analyze arterial blood gases; perform bedside diagnostic procedures (spirometry, pulse oximetry, flow studies)
- Provide neonatal respiratory support and attend high‑risk deliveries (NRP required)
- Respond to Code Blues and Rapid Response activations
- Participate in pulmonary rehabilitation through patient assessment, education, and individualized treatment planning
- Document care, progress, and outcomes in accordance with clinical standards
- Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot respiratory equipment
- Support orientation of new staff and serve as a clinical resource when needed
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Associate’s Degree from an AMA‑accredited Respiratory Care program
- Licensure: Active South Carolina Respiratory Care Practitioner license (LLR)
- Credential: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) through NBRC
- Certifications:
- BLS required
- ACLS within 6 months (required for Pulmonary Rehab, Pulmonary Lab, CVICU, Rapid Response Team)
- NRP certification required for Special Care Nursery
- Experience: Special Care Nursery experience required
- Substitution: 10 years of direct RT experience may substitute for degree with active RRT and SC licensure
