SUMMARY of JOB: General Summary: To provide the students under his/her direct supervision a quality educational program, which is appropriate for the assigned students, that meets their ability and appropriate for the subject and growth, and personal characteristics.
QUALIFICATIONS: (Minimum)

Valid Michigan Secondary Teaching Certificate in English (BA)

AP experience preferred

Demonstrates knowledge of the Michigan Merit Curriculum/Common Core Standards/HS and Grade Level Content Expectations

Competent in using a variety of technology applications related to classroom management, 21st Century Learning, differentiated instruction, Power School experience preferred

RESPONSIBILITIES:
-
Develops and administers school curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.

Teach and assess English classes
-
Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students.

Employ differentiated instruction to meet all students where they are.
-
Collect, report, and interpret data for student success.
-
Attend meetings, as needed.
-
Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe questions and investigate.

Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining an environment conducive to learning for all students
-
Teach socially accepted behavior by employing techniques in an overall positive behavioral support system.

Create, modify and implement effective behavioral intervention strategies for students based on best practice principles and current data.

Maintain accurate and complete student records and prepare reports on students and activities, as required by laws, district policies, and administrative procedures.

Develop plans for effective communication, monitoring, and follow-up of students and parents in classroom settings.

Maintain professional competence in the field of ELA education.
