We are seeking a hands-on Network / Cybersecurity Engineer with a strong foundation in network security, threat detection, incident response, and advanced troubleshooting. The ideal candidate enjoys investigating suspicious activity, analyzing network traffic, managing next-generation security technologies, and strengthening security controls across both on-premises and cloud environments.
This role is particularly well suited for someone with experience supporting next-generation firewalls, network infrastructure, security monitoring, Zero Trust architectures, and cyber incident response.
Key Responsibilities
- Continuously monitor security and network technologies—including SIEM, EDR, IDS/IPS, next-generation firewalls, and related security platforms—to identify suspicious, anomalous, or potentially malicious activity.
- Analyze network traffic, firewall events, endpoint alerts, and other security telemetry to identify compromised devices, attempted exploitation, unauthorized activity, and emerging threats.
- Conduct detailed investigations of security alerts and confirmed incidents, including root-cause analysis, containment, remediation, and incident response support.
- Configure, manage, troubleshoot, and optimize next-generation firewall technologies and security policies to improve network protection and operational effectiveness.
- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of Zero Trust security principles, network segmentation, access controls, and security best practices.
- Perform proactive threat hunting to identify malicious activity or security weaknesses that may not have triggered existing detection mechanisms.
- Assist with advanced troubleshooting across Layer 2 and Layer 3 networks, including routing, switching, VLANs, segmentation, firewall connectivity, and IPSec/VPN connectivity.
- Document security alerts, investigations, troubleshooting activities, findings, and response actions within the organization's IT ticketing and case-management systems.
- Ensure tickets contain accurate and meaningful technical information and are maintained through resolution.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity, network, infrastructure, and other IT teams to resolve complex technical and security issues.
- Participate in cybersecurity exercises, technical training, and knowledge-sharing activities to stay current with emerging threats, technologies, and defensive techniques.
Desired Skills & Experience
The strongest candidates will bring experience in several of the following areas; expertise in every technology is not required:
- Hands-on network security engineering and troubleshooting
- Next-generation firewall administration, particularly Palo Alto Networks/Panorama, Fortinet/FortiGate, SonicWall, or similar platforms
- Incident response and investigation of potentially malicious network or endpoint activity
- Network traffic analysis and identification of anomalous behavior
- Zero Trust security concepts and implementation
- SIEM, EDR, IDS/IPS, and security monitoring technologies
- CrowdStrike Endpoint Protection or comparable EDR platforms
- Firewall policy creation, review, and optimization
- Layer 2/Layer 3 networking, including routing, switching, VLANs, and network segmentation
- IPSec tunnels, VPNs, and secure network connectivity
- On-premises and cloud cybersecurity principles and best practices
- Strong technical troubleshooting and root-cause analysis
- Experience working with IT ticketing and case-management systems
- Ability to clearly communicate technical findings to security, network, and IT teams
- Ability to independently investigate and resolve complex technical issues
Certifications & Background
Relevant education, professional experience, and industry certifications are valued. Certifications such as Security+, CCNA, PCNSE, or comparable networking/security credentials are particularly relevant but are not required.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who combines a network engineer's troubleshooting mindset with a cybersecurity professional's focus on detection and defense. You should be comfortable digging into network traffic, firewall logs, alerts, and technical configurations to understand what is happening, determine whether it represents a security risk, and take the appropriate action.
Candidates who have grown from network infrastructure or firewall engineering into cybersecurity and incident response are strongly encouraged to apply.
