We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Accountant to join our finance team. Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
- Perform account reconciliations for various ledgers such as general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable to ensure data accuracy.
- Manage payroll processing using software like ADP, Paychex, Kronos, or UltiPro, ensuring timely and accurate salary disbursements.
- Maintain and update accounting software systems including QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, PeopleSoft, Ceridian, and Workday to streamline financial operations.
- Conduct month-end and year-end closing procedures, including journal entries and double-entry bookkeeping.
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable functions to ensure timely payments and collections while maintaining compliance with internal policies.
- Assist with audit preparations by providing detailed documentation on financial transactions and supporting schedules.
- Support budgeting processes and perform variance analysis to monitor financial performance against forecasts.
- Ensure adherence to SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) controls for internal audit compliance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on technical accounting issues related to governmental accounting or nonprofit accounting as needed.
Requirements
- Proven experience in corporate accounting or governmental accounting environments with a strong understanding of GAAP standards.
- Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, PeopleSoft, Ceridian, UltiPro, ADP or Kronos is essential.
- Demonstrated knowledge of financial concepts including balance sheet reconciliation, account analysis, journal entries, debits & credits, and general ledger reconciliation.
- Experience with payroll management systems like Paychex or ADP is highly desirable.
- Strong data entry skills with a focus on accuracy; familiarity with 10 key typing is preferred.
- Ability to interpret financial data accurately and apply technical accounting principles effectively.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- A background in public accounting or experience working within non-profit organizations is a plus.
- Strong math skills combined with critical thinking for account analysis and credit assessment.
