Job Overview:
We are a one-doctor veterinary practice seeking a dedicated and compassionate RVT or Experienced Veterinary Assistant with leadership qualities to join our team. This is a full to part-time position for someone with at least 1-2 years of hands-on veterinary assistant experience who is passionate about animal care and thrives in a supportive, fast-paced environment.
Requirements:
- 2 years of previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant or in a veterinary setting is required.
- RVT license (or eligibility) is a plus and strongly encouraged.
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including Saturdays.
- A genuine commitment to animal welfare and team collaboration.
- Spanish or Portuguese language skills are a plus.
Responsibilities:
- Obtain patient history, observe and monitor animal behavior, and communicate findings to the veterinary team.
- Safely restrain animals and assist the veterinarian during examinations and treatments.
- Assist with diagnostic procedures, including radiographs, sample collection, and laboratory preparation.
- Administer vaccines, injections, and medications as directed by the veterinarian or licensed technician (RVTs may perform according to their license).
- Prepare patients for surgery, including pre-operative setup and patient handling.
- Assist in surgery and support anesthesia monitoring (RVTs will be utilized for anesthesia monitoring and advanced technical duties).
- Provide post-operative care, including monitoring recovery and ensuring patient comfort.
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records.
- Assist with client communication, including discharge instructions and follow-ups.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of exam rooms, surgical areas, kennels, and equipment.
- Clean, sterilize, and properly maintain surgical instruments and medical tools.
- Educate clients on pet care, medications, nutrition, and post-treatment instructions (expanded role for RVTs).
- Support front desk operations as needed, including greeting clients, scheduling appointments, and processing check-outs.
Responsibilities for Leadership Role (If Applicable)
- Lead and mentor veterinary assistants and support staff during daily operations.
- Coach staff on hospital protocols, patient care, and workflow efficiency.
- Promote a positive, respectful, and team-oriented work environment.
- Lead by example by actively participating in daily opening, closing, and cleaning duties while ensuring tasks are completed.
- Maintain expiration dates of all injectables of treatment rooms
- Maintain equipment such as anesthesia machines, analyzers, etc.
- Collaborate with the Medical Director and Practice Manager to implement medical protocols and support the clinical team.
- Assist with performance feedback and ongoing staff development.
