Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse and within the limitations of the Missouri Nurse Practice Act, the Emergency Certified Nursing Assistant/Emergency Medical Technician/Nursing Assistant delivers Emergency care consistent with the job description. Administers competent care to any patient seeking physiological or psychological health care presenting to this Emergency Department. The delivery of care includes data collection, documentation, and implementation of nursing interventions as delineated in Bates County Memorial Hospital’s policies and procedures/Nursing Structural Standards. ED CNA/EMT/NA will assist the nursing staff by providing efficient clerical and other office duties under the direction of the ED RNs, as well as the Emergency Department Manager. The ED CNA/EMT/NA provides services necessary for the care of the patient, and in support of the mission of Bates County Memorial Hospital.
Experience and Education:
- BLS upon hire or within 3 months and participate in yearly recertification.
- Active Missouri Certified Nursing Assistant certification in good standing OR
- Active Missouri Emergency Medical Technician certification in good standing OR
- Nursing Assistant* (Successful completion of 2nd Semester of RN Nursing School)

Perform 12 Lead EKG’s

Monitor patients on Suicide Precautions, 1:1 continuous visual observation

Ordering and Stocking of ED supplies
-
Maintains current certification and proficient in BLS skills/ knowledge
-
Proficient in use of patient lifts and transfer devises
-
Proficient in Blood Glucose monitoring and QC Procedures
-
Proficient in cleaning of soiled instruments
-
Reports/records intake/output as appropriate to RN for each patient PRN
-
Empties and records the amount of foley, drains, ostomies PRN
-
Checks frequently and empties urinals, commodes, etc., as needed
-
Documents vital signs PRN
-
Charting in EMR using correct spelling of medical terminology, with records signed appropriately
-
Shares responsibilities for general care of patients, to include promoting personal hygiene, positioning the patient for comfort and good body alignment and assisting the patient with prescribed activities

Has knowledge of patient condition at all times and keeps RN accurately informed

Performs BLS and assist with Code Blue

Other duties required for the care of patients or as assigned within the scope of practice

Actively participates in Emergency Department continuing education

Department Supervisor is informed of unusual incidents or problems
