Responsibilities
- Lead surf lessons tailored to different skill levels and all types of children, from beginners to advanced surfers
- Ensure all participants adhere to safety protocols and surf etiquette at all times
- Conduct pre-lesson safety briefings and equipment checks before each session
- Demonstrate proper surfing techniques, stances, paddling, and wave selection
- Monitor weather conditions, tide schedules, and water quality to maintain a safe environment
- Provide coaching on sports-specific skills such as balance, coordination, and water confidence
- Maintain clear communication with participants and team members to ensure smooth operations
Requirements
- Proven surfing experience with strong lifeguard or water safety background
- Experience teaching physical education or sports coaching, especially in martial arts like Karate or Judo, is a plus
- MUST have experience with neurodivergent children or willing to accommodate the needs of a neurodivergent child
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to instruct children and adults effectively
- Knowledge of behavior management techniques to foster a positive learning environment
- Prior experience working with students in sports or recreational settings such as swimming, climbing, cheerleading, or gym environments is advantageous
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and stand for extended periods
About this position
This position is seasonal and hours are not guaranteed. You create your own schedule of availability and we match you with a client in Brevard County. Surf lessons can take place anywhere from Melbourne Beach to the Cape.
Instructors are considered independent contractors and will receive a 1099.
