About the Position
This position ensures materials, hardware, and supplies are available to support manufacturing while managing cost and efficiency. This role is ideal for an experienced buyer seeking flexible part time hours or someone interested in growing in supply chain and manufacturing. The position offers exposure to purchasing, supplier communication, material planning, inventory control, and lean manufacturing practices.
Duties
- Review ERP reports and analyze data in Excel to identify when and how much material to order
- Coordinate with estimating and manufacturing on special orders
- Prepare and issue RFQs and evaluate pricing, lead time and supplier responsiveness
- Create purchase orders within the ERP system and ensure accurate flow down of requirements
- Monitor supplier confirmations, track open orders, and follow up with suppliers to meet schedule needs
- Oversee cycle counts, reconcile discrepancies, and support continuous improvement in inventory management
- Transact PO receipts, maintain PO records, and resolve any discrepancies
- Respond to material shortages and address root causes and process improvements
- Support onboarding of new suppliers
- Help maintain item master data and planning data in the ERP system including planning parameters, supplier part numbers, preferred suppliers, lead time, and standard PO comments
- Maintain data on commodity pricing, supplier performance, and inventory
- Purchase shop supplies and office supplies
- Support purchasing of outside services such as plating and painting as needed
- Work with manufacturing to implement and maintain simple material management systems such as reorder sheets and reorder cards for shop supplies
- Other duties as assigned
Experience
- Experience in purchasing, material planning, or inventory control in a manufacturing setting
- Knowledge of ERP systems or ability to learn
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- High school diploma or GED required; associates or bachelor’s degree is a plus
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Experience with aerospace or defense manufacturing preferred (AS9100, ITAR)
Job Type: Part Time, on Site
Schedule: 12-18 hours per week. Schedule can be discussed
Normal business hours: Monday-Friday 7am-3:30pm

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
