Part-Time Assistant Cheer & Dance Coach
We are looking for an energetic and dependable Assistant Cheer & Dance Coach to help lead after-school and weekend programming for children ages 3–14.
This is a very part-time position that is ideal for someone with cheer, dance, gymnastics, or movement experience who enjoys working with children. The coach will primarily support our lead instructors, with opportunities to take on more responsibility, lead classes, and grow into a larger coaching or leadership role over time.
Availability Needed
September through January
- Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00–6:00 PM
- Saturday and Sunday mornings
Coaches must be comfortable traveling to schools throughout Manhattan for after-school programming and working at our studio on the Upper East Side.
Responsibilities
- Assist the lead coach with cheer, dance, tumbling, and stunting classes
- Learn cheers, chants, dances, and routines in order to help teach participants
- Demonstrate basic movements, stretches, jumps, motions, cartwheels, and other age-appropriate skills
- Safely spot children during basic tumbling and stunting activities
- Help manage groups of children and maintain a positive, organized class environment
- Encourage teamwork, confidence, effort, and good sportsmanship
- Help prepare students for performances and the end-of-season recital
- Communicate professionally with coaches, staff, children, and families
- Be willing and able to lead portions of class or take over when the lead coach is unavailable
- Follow all program safety procedures and report any concerns to program leadership
Preferred Experience and Skills
- Experience with cheerleading, dance, gymnastics, tumbling, or youth sports
- Comfortable working with children ages 3–14
- Familiarity with, or willingness to learn:
- Cheer vocabulary
- Jumps and motions
- Basic stunts and tumbling
- Cheers and chants
- Sideline dances
- Musicality and movement
- Ability to demonstrate basic physical skills such as cartwheels, stretches, jumps, and dance movements
- Strong energy, patience, communication, and classroom-management skills
- Dependable, professional, and comfortable taking initiative
- First Aid and CPR certification is preferred or must be obtained after hiring

Compensation
$20–$23 per hour, based on experience.
