We’re currently seeking an experienced and highly organized Histotech to lead our skilled grossing team.
Position Overview: The Grossing Supervisor will oversee the daily operations of the grossing team in a high-volume dermatopathology lab. The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of dermatopathology specimen handling, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to mentor and guide a team of technicians. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact in a dynamic and patient-focused laboratory environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate daily activities of the grossing team. The grossing team works M-F, 9:30 - 6:30
- Oversee dissection, description, and preparation of dermatologic tissue specimens.
- Assist the histology department with microtomy and embedding as needed.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols, laboratory quality standards, and regulatory guidelines.
- Verify specimen documentation, labeling, and tracking for accuracy and completeness.
- Train, mentor, and support grossing staff; promote continuous quality improvement.
- Collaborate closely with pathologists and other lab personnel to ensure optimal specimen processing.
- Monitor team performance, conduct evaluations, and provide constructive feedback.
- Oversee reagent handling, processor maintenance, and equipment checks.
- Manage inventory and order supplies as needed.
- Assist with SOP development and implementation for enhanced efficiency and accuracy.
- Participate in grossing tasks as needed to support team workflow.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent education/experience per CLIA (42 CFR 493.1489).
- Certification in Histology (HT/HTL – ASCP) or equivalent preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a dermatopathology or clinical laboratory, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
- In-depth knowledge of grossing protocols and tissue processing best practices.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proven ability to prioritize, delegate, and adapt in a fast-paced setting.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
