Maintenance Mechanic (Welder/Fabricator)

1st Shift: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM + Overtime

About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic / Welder-Fabricator to support a growing manufacturing facility in Carteret, NJ. This role is critical to maintaining and improving production equipment and facility systems through hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, and fabrication work.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on production equipment, pumps, motors, and HVAC systems
- Conduct welding and fabrication using MIG, TIG, and stick methods
- Rebuild machinery, including pumps, mixers, and mechanical components
- Complete minor electrical work (installing outlets, switches, lighting; basic troubleshooting)
- Perform plumbing tasks such as copper piping, threading, soldering, and fixture repair
- Utilize CMMS system to log and track work orders and maintenance activities
- Maintain compliance with FDA, SQF, OSHA, and company safety standards
- Assist with equipment installations, upgrades, and facility upkeep
- Collaborate with maintenance and production teams to ensure smooth operations
Required Skills & Experience
- Experience with welding (MIG, TIG, Stick)
- Strong background in troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and equipment repair
- Hands-on maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment (2+ years required; 5+ preferred)
- Ability to work with CMMS systems and basic computer skills
- Knowledge of pumps, motors, HVAC systems, and mechanical equipment
- Proficiency with hand and power tools
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational or technical training in mechanical, electrical, or plumbing trades
- Experience with electrical work and plumbing systems
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles
- Experience working within a preventive maintenance program
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks
- Comfortable working around mechanical equipment and moderate-to-loud noise levels
- May require working in confined spaces or elevated areas
- Ability to operate forklifts, scissor lifts, and related equipment
- Willingness to work overtime (avg. 8 hours/week, including occasional Saturdays)
