Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join our intensive care unit team, specializing in stepdown care. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in critical care nursing, with comprehensive knowledge of advanced patient assessment, medical procedures, and electronic health record systems. This role offers an opportunity to provide exceptional patient-centered care in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while utilizing a broad range of clinical skills and expertise.
Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients in the stepdown ICU, including monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and managing ventilators and IV infusions.
- Perform detailed patient assessments and develop individualized care plans aligned with best practices and hospital protocols.
- Utilize EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner to accurately document patient information, treatment plans, and medical records.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate complex procedures such as cardiac catheterization, dialysis, or trauma medicine interventions.
- Implement aseptic techniques during invasive procedures like suturing, catheterization, or specimen collection to prevent infections.
- Educate patients and their families on treatment options, medication administration, pain management, and discharge planning.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations and ensure all documentation adheres to NCQA standards for quality assurance.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations utilizing critical care response procedures including airway management and neonatal resuscitation when necessary.
Requirements
- Valid RN license with current registration in the applicable jurisdiction.
- Proven experience working within ICU settings, including Level I or Level II trauma centers or PICU environments.
- Demonstrated proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth; experience with ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10) is preferred.
- Strong critical thinking skills complemented by knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to acute care scenarios.
- Experience performing advanced procedures such as tube feeding management, laboratory specimen processing, or sterile processing techniques.
- Familiarity with diverse patient populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, individuals with developmental disabilities, or those requiring hospice & palliative medicine services.
- Ability to handle high-pressure situations involving trauma medicine, infectious disease care, or emergency response protocols effectively.
- Excellent communication skills for patient assessment and education; ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
