Full-Time Traveling EFDA (High-Skilled Support Role)
Work Location: In Person (Multiple UDC Locations)
Urgent Dental Center & Family Dentistry (UDC) is seeking highly skilled Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) to join our team in a full-time traveling support role. This position plays a vital part in delivering exceptional patient care by supporting the Lead Dentist and ensuring clinical excellence across multiple UDC locations.
As a Traveling EFDA, you will be responsible for preparing treatment rooms, patients, instruments, and materials, assisting chairside during procedures, and performing expanded functions in full compliance with the Indiana Dental Practice Act.
This role requires flexibility, professionalism, and the ability to confidently support clinical care in a fast-paced, multi-site environment.
Travel Expectations
This is an active traveling position supporting local UDC offices throughout Indiana. The EFDA will travel with the Lead Dentist from Monday to Friday, with the possibility of additional days as needed.
Mileage reimbursement and/or transportation support will be provided based on travel requirements outside of Indianapolis area.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Core duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Place and condense amalgam restorations

Place and finish composite restorations

Operate dental radiographic (x-ray) equipment

Digital scanning
-
Prepare treatment rooms according to established protocols

Welcome, seat, drape, and comfort patients prior to treatment

Provide chairside assistance by suctioning and passing instruments and materials
-
Sterilize and deliver instruments to the treatment area
-
Mix, select, and place dental materials as directed

Expose and develop radiographs; pour and trim study models
-
Fabricate temporary restorations and polish removable appliances
-
Assist in dental and medical emergency response; maintain CPR certification

Educate patients on oral hygiene, plaque control, and post-operative care

Accurately document services and treatment notes in patient records

Maintain confidentiality and protect patient trust

Adhere to infection-control and safety protocols
-
Support preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of dental equipment

Monitor and maintain inventory of clinical supplies

Participate in continuing education and professional development

Assist with off-site marketing or outreach activities as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Certificate from a college or technical school required

Minimum of 2–3 years of EFDA or related clinical experience, or equivalent combination of education and training
LANGUAGE SKILLS
-
Ability to read and interpret safety rules and procedure manuals
-
Ability to write routine reports and communicate effectively with patients and staff
COMPUTER SKILLS
-
Proficiency in internet, spreadsheet, and word processing software
-
Experience with Curve is a plus
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS

Valid Radiology/X-ray License (Required)

Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) Certificate

EFDA Certification (Required)

TRAVEL REQUIREMENT

100% willingness to travel to any and all UDC locations as required
-
Travel expected approximately 3 times per week ( Additional days or change of schedule may vary based on coverage needs.)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This role requires standing, walking, sitting, bending, lifting, and performing clinical assisting duties throughout the workday. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
