JOB SUMMARY: The Connections Pastor leads Gateway's strategy for helping people move from first contact to meaningful belonging and discipleship by creating environments, systems, and relationships that help every person belong to the people of God and become the person God intends them to be. It serves as a relational systems architect, measuring connection, not just attendance.
1. OVERSEE NEW GUEST EXPERIENCE
This position is responsible for creating & cultivating an environment where every person feels seen, valued, and invited into the Gateway family.
- Ensure a remarkable guest experience by leading a dynamic guest services team.
- Recruit, train, organize and lead hospitality and guest services teams, including parking lot, greeters, ushers, and café volunteers.
- Develop systems and volunteer culture that reflect Gateway's commitment to hospitality and belonging.
- Equip volunteers to recognize and engage newcomers with intentional care and follow-through.
- Communicate Gateway’s mission and vision to team leaders regularly ensuring team alignment.
2. LEAD CONNECTION PATHWAY
This position is responsible for the development, oversight, and improvement of the systems that help people move from initial contact to active participation in the life of the church.
- Oversee and implement a clear connection pathway from first-time guest to engaged disciple.
- Manage guest follow-up systems and processes, ensuring timely and personal engagement that leads to belonging.
- Provide guidance and support to individuals seeking their next step in discipleship, community, or service.
- Lead Gateway Connect and other environments that introduce people to Gateway & help them get connected.
- Collaborate with staff to align the Connection Pathway with Gateway's communication strategy and broader Discipleship Pathway.
- Define, track evaluate, and report on engagement metrics to assess pathway effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.
3. BUILD COMMUNITY & MOBILIZE PEOPLE
This position is responsible for strengthening Gateway’s culture of belonging by helping people connect in meaningful relationships, discover their gifts, and participate in the life and mission of the church.
- Serve as the primary resource, communication, and coordination hub for all Gateway Groups and support groups.
- Develop new groups and group leaders to create relational on-ramps.
- Equip, encourage, and provide ongoing care for group and support group leaders, including regular meetings to assess leader health, ministry health, and alignment.
- Lead environments that help people discover their gifts, passions, and place of service (SHAPE).
- Serve as lead for key church-wide connection events that foster relationships, community, and engagement (Anniversary Sunday, Thanksgiving Potluck).
- Partner with ministry leaders to mobilize new volunteers into service across the church.
- Communicate connection opportunities through announcements, digital communication, and other church-wide channels.
- Gather feedback and engagement data to improve group participation, volunteer engagement, and the overall connection experience.
