JOB
Performs technical and administrative accounting work in maintaining the fiscal records of the City; supervises the accounting and clerical staff in the maintenance of important specialized records of a large departmental accounting system; provides accounting analysis of various departmental operations; assists in monitoring grant funds to ensure financial accuracy; works with various outside agencies to ensure accuracy of the city’s accounting records; performs related work as required.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Provides leadership and direction in the control and monitoring of the Transportation Department annual budget and grant budgets ensuring proper record maintenance.
Gathers, interprets, and prepares data for studies, reports and recommendations; coordinates department activities with other departments and agencies as needed.
Provides professional advice to supervisors and department heads regarding financial matters; makes presentations to supervisors, boards, commissions, civic groups and the general public.
Assures that assigned areas of responsibility are performed within budget; performs cost control activities; monitors revenues and expenditures in assigned area to assure sound fiscal control; prepares annual budget requests; assures effective and efficient use of budgeted funds, personnel, materials, facilities, and time.
Prepares a variety of studies, reports and related information for decision-making purposes.
Supervises, prepares and records data for a number of transportation funds including grant funds and energy programs.
Assists in the preparation of State and/or Federal reports.
Supervises and makes journal entries and adjustments to balance and close monthly books in general ledger, revenue and expense accounts; reconciles general ledger and subsidiary transportation accounts.
Prepares financial reports on transportation revenues and expenses; reconciles bank statements.
Supervises and assists in the closing and opening of the fiscal year records.
Performs periodic financial studies and analyses.
Supervises and maintains special accounts receivable.
Prepares year-end reports.
Oversees office functions throughout transportation.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
