Summary
Elliott County Middle School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with students with diverse learning needs and a commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive educational environment. This full-time position requires collaboration with educators, parents, and support staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that promote academic and social success for all students.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique needs and abilities.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to adapt curriculum and instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Conduct assessments and evaluations to monitor student progress and adjust teaching methods accordingly.
- Provide direct instruction and support to students in both one-on-one and small group settings.
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and participation.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, behavior, and IEP documentation.
- Communicate regularly with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders regarding student progress and any concerns.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education.
- Collaborate with related service providers, such as speech therapists and occupational therapists, to support student needs.
- Advocate for students' needs and rights within the school and community.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Valid state teaching certification in Special Education.
- Experience working with students with disabilities, preferably in a middle school setting.
- Strong understanding of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of educators and support staff.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed.
- Proficiency in using technology and educational software to enhance learning.
