Duties
- Perform thorough cleaning, sterilization, and preparation of surgical instruments using aseptic techniques to prevent infection.
- Assist with animal kenneling, including feeding, watering, cleaning enclosures, and monitoring animal health status.
- Handle animals safely during intake, restraint for procedures, and daily care, demonstrating proficiency in animal handling and restraint techniques.
- Support veterinary staff by assisting with medication administration, basic animal husbandry tasks, and observing animals for signs of illness or distress.
- Maintain accurate records of sterilization processes, animal treatments, and kennel activities to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Assist with laboratory tasks such as sample collection or processing under veterinary supervision when needed.
- Contribute to a clean and organized work environment by following proper infection control protocols and laboratory procedures.
Qualifications
- Prior kennel experience or animal husbandry background preferred; familiarity with veterinary clinic operations is a plus.
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, physiology, and basic medical procedures such as catheterization or medication administration.
- Experience with animal restraint techniques across various species including dogs and birds; ability to handle animals gently yet effectively.
- Strong understanding of aseptic technique to ensure sterile environments during surgical preparations.
- Laboratory experience or veterinary assistant experience is advantageous; familiarity with veterinary critical care practices is desirable.
- Excellent attention to detail combined with the ability to follow detailed instructions accurately.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy objects safely, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
