Position: Senior Legal Counsel, Real Estate
Location: Houston, Texas
Millmark Capital LLC (“Millmark”) is seeking an experienced real estate counsel to join our team. The ideal candidate will serve as a key legal partner to the business, providing strategic and practical guidance across a broad range of real estate matters, including acquisitions, dispositions, land development, and related transactions. This role requires a seasoned attorney with both law firm and in-house experience who can effectively balance legal risk with business objectives in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
- Lead and manage all aspects of real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, and financing matters
- Draft, review, and negotiate purchase and sale agreements, development agreements, easements, and other real estate documents
- Provide clear, business-oriented advice on transaction structure, risk allocation, and execution
- Support land development activities, including entitlements, zoning, platting, and infrastructure agreements
- Advise on regulatory requirements and coordinate with municipalities and other governmental authorities
- Identify and mitigate risks related to development timelines, approvals, and obligations
- Determine when to engage outside counsel versus handling matters internally
- Manage outside counsel to ensure effective performance, appropriate scope, and cost efficiency
- Partner closely with acquisitions, development, construction, and finance teams to deliver practical legal support
- Contribute to cross-functional initiatives and process improvements
- Oversee and maintain standard forms, templates, and legal processes
- Handle day-to-day legal matters, including contract review and internal advisory work
- Exercise sound judgment in prioritizing issues, escalating when appropriate, and balancing hands-on work with effective delegation
- Maintain high standards of professionalism, integrity, responsiveness, and collaboration
- J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to the Texas bar
- 5+ years of experience in real estate law, including: land acquisition and disposition, land development and entitlements, and commercial and residential real estate transactions
- Combination of law firm and in-house experience strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex transactions
- Strong organizational and time management skill
