American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit (CVPCU) position in Asheville, NC, requiring stepdown and telemetry experience with a minimum of 2 years of recent experience.

40-bed cardiovascular and vascular surgery stepdown unit within an 815-bed acute care facility serving as the regional referral center for western North Carolina
-
Primary patient population includes post-op CV and vascular surgery patients (CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR, lobectomy, AAA repair, fem-pop bypass, carotid endarterectomy) as well as overflow medical cardiology patients (heart failure, DKA, chest pain, sepsis, heart block)

Patient ratio is 1:5 RN-to-patient; PCT ratio is 1:13

Equipment used includes Baxter IV pumps and CADD epidural pumps

EMR is Cerner
-
Night shift: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
-
13-week contract
-
Minimum of 6 weekend shifts (Saturday and/or Sunday) per 6-week schedule period
-
Floating may be required to stepdown units (1:5 ratio), med-surg units (1:6–7 ratio), or ER inpatient holding area (1:6 ratio)

No on-call responsibilities

Active NC or compact RN license required
-
Current BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA or ARC accepted; certifications must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment start)

Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience in a stepdown or PCU setting

Stepdown experience required
-
Telemetry experience required
-
No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
-
US SSN and date of birth required for consideration
-
One professional reference required (two required for candidates licensed in Florida or Missouri)

Procedures performed on the unit include epidural management, chest tube management, tube feedings, IV Glucommander, and cardiac drip management (phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, ketamine)

Prior CV and vascular surgery experience (open heart, TAVR, lobectomy, AAA repair, fem-pop bypass) within the past year is preferred

CVICU experience is a plus

The ideal candidate is a team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is adaptable

Scrub colors: all navy, white tops with navy bottoms, or all white

Holiday coverage flexibility is expected

Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted

The facility is the only Level II trauma center, comprehensive stroke center, and children's hospital in western North Carolina, and is the region's sole provider of open heart and interventional cardiology services
