A Long-Term Substitute is defined as a substitute for an assignment lasting more than 15 consecutive days for one teacher.
Steps to Become a Long-Term Substitute Teacher:
- Complete an Online Employment Application and attach supporting documentation (copy of transcript, degree, teaching certificate, etc.). Minimum of 60 college credits required.
- Contact by school administration regarding position.
- Completion of fingerprinting/background check and I-9. To complete an I-9 and to schedule a fingerprinting appointment, visit: Background Check . (Do not schedule until you have been offered a position.)
- Submission of required documents
- Copy of Driver's License and Social Security Card
- Direct Deposit Form

Applications must include a resume or detailed work history, proof of education (attach diploma or transcript), and references to be considered.
Applicants for positions working with high school students must demonstrate the maturity, professional judgment, and ability to maintain appropriate adult-student boundaries. The school system reserves the right to consider factors including, but not limited to, the applicant’s age, recency of enrollment in the school system, and proximity in age to the student population when making placement decisions.
