Schedule: M – F, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, evening and weekend hours are occasionally required

About us: For over 100 years, the Niagara History Center has served as a community hub for local historic tourism, school field trips, and as a meeting place for many local groups with the goal of highlighting the importance of the Erie Canal Locks and the history of Lockport and Niagara County. Our work highlights the restored 1842 locks and the current Erie Canal Barge Locks 34 and 35, and how these projects and the people associated with them have impacted the greater Niagara region.
About the role: This role is responsible for providing administrative, operational and organizational support for the Niagara History Center, primarily through the coordination of the gift shop spaces at the Niagara History Center’s Niagara Street Campus and the Erie Canal Discovery Center. This role reports directly to the Executive Director of the Niagara History Center.
Responsibilities:
· Museum Shops – Coordinating museum gift shops at both Niagara History Center and the Erie Canal Discovery Center, including but not limited to sales - operating the Square POS system - ordering, pricing, merchandising, balancing registers and producing deposits, performing annual inventory, training and supervising additional staff, filing annual NYS Sales Tax, and reporting to the Executive Director and Board of Trustees.
· Member Service and Community Engagement – Being the first point of contact for museum members and community members by working the front desk, processing memberships, accepting financial donations, keeping updated records, and carrying out correspondence. In addition, collaborating with NHC staff on website updates, social media posts, internal and external announcements, newsletters, advertising and signage.
· Operational Support – Ensuring the efficient day-to-day functioning of museum spaces, coordinating operations needs of sites owned by the Niagara History Center, and supporting ongoing fundraising, events, and community initiatives, and providing backup administrative coverage during staff absences.
· Additional duties as requested
Qualifications:
· Expertise in Square POS system - including set-up, maintenance and reporting required
· 2-4 years of retail experience highly preferred
· A bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or a related field is desirable
· Knowledge and interest in the history of the Erie Canal and Lockport Locks preferred
· Experience with Canva or other design platforms preferred
· Candidate must be friendly, organized and comfortable working independently and with a team
· Must have proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel
· Strong writing skills are required
