Childhood is a time for wonder, with the magic and inspiration that flows from it.
Long mornings outdoors. Climbing, balancing, digging, building, singing, laughing, listening to stories, baking bread, tending a garden, caring for the home, creating with natural materials, and having the unhurried time children need to imagine, explore, and grow. These are the foundations of a healthy childhood.
This fall, I am looking for a like-minded parent to join me in helping create that kind of environment for a small group of children at Mossy Patch Playgarden, a home-based enrichment program inspired by Waldorf and LifeWays principles.
This opportunity is ideal for someone who has intentionally chosen to be home with their children and is looking for a meaningful way to spend three mornings each week in a community that shares similar values.Your own child (or children) would attend alongside you as part of our small mixed-age community (approximately potty trained through age 7, with the possibility of an older sibling joining as well).
I'm looking for someone who:
- Genuinely delights in young children, and can work amongst them, supporting them as needed, but not interrupting them or distracting them unnecessarily
- Believes children thrive with minimal screen exposure and values a screen-free environment.
- Is warm, dependable, patient, and able to follow the lead of another teacher while also taking initiative when needed.
- Finds joy in any or all of the following: singing, storytelling, puppetry, music, crafting, sewing, baking, gardening, theater, or other creative arts.
- Is comfortable spending much of the morning outdoors in every season.
- Appreciates that caring for children also includes caring for the environment around them through practical daily tasks such as preparing snacks, tidying spaces, washing dishes and tidying after crafting activities.
- As my assistant, you would help:
- Welcome and care for the children throughout the morning.
- Prepare and clean up activities.
- Assist with light snack and food preparation.
- Participate enthusiastically in songs, stories, crafts and nature walks.
- Model kindness, patience, manners, cooperation, and joyful participation.
- Help create a calm, nurturing rhythm by following the lead teacher throughout the day.
- Our mornings are designed to meet the real developmental needs of young children through:
- Long periods of uninterrupted outdoor and indoor play
- Guided artistic experiences and handwork
- Practical life activities that build confidence and independence
- Social-emotional growth, empathy, and cooperation
- Healthy physical development, including supporting balance, coordination, and strength
- Stories, songs, movement, and rich language experiences that gently prepare children for later academic success—without rushing childhood.
- If you've ever wished for a place where your own children could spend their mornings immersed in nature, meaningful work, imagination, and genuine community while you play an active role in creating that experience, I'd love to hear from you.
- The schedule: Three mornings each week
- Approximately four-five hours each morning
- Compensation to be discussed
- Please send a message and tell me about yourself, your family, and what draws you to this opportunity.
