American Traveler is hiring a Pediatric Transport RN requiring flight or mobile transfer experience along with active OR and WA/Compact RN licensure.

Work within a Pediatric Transport unit at a children's hospital
-
Transport team consists of one RN and one RT per shift, based at the hospital
-
Transport neonates and pediatric patients from outside facilities requiring a higher level of care
-
Transport methods include ground, fixed-wing flight, and rotor-wing flight
-
Patients are guided by a physician during transport
-
Team transports throughout Oregon and SW Washington, primarily back to the home facility
-
Also provides contracted transport services between partner health system sites
-
May provide backup transport coverage for another regional NICU/PICU transport team when unavailable
-
Shift schedule is 3x12 hour nights (18:30-07:00)
-
Weekend requirement is a minimum of every 3rd weekend, with occasional additional weekend shifts as needed

Uses Epic charting system

13-week assignment length

Active OR RN license and WA/Compact RN license required prior to start

Current BLS, NRP, and PALS certifications required
-
Minimum 3 years of recent experience as a fully oriented, working neonatal/pediatric transport RN with strong NICU/PICU skills
-
Flight and/or mobile transfer experience required for consideration

Epic EMR experience required

Trauma Level I experience preferred
-
Prefer 2+ years of transport experience if candidate has prior pediatric transport RN experience

Skills required include end-tidal CO2 monitoring, assisting/managing intubation, BiPAP/CPAP management, ventilator management, care of ventilated patients, care/maintenance of acute airway, high flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, and ETT/NT suctioning

Skills required include administration of anti-seizure medications, antiarrhythmics, continuous sedation, IV vasopressors, pediatric dosage calculations, procedural sedation administration/monitoring, and use of the Broselow system

Skills required include arterial line management, central/implanted line care, and starting/maintaining IVs
-
Skills required include interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
-
Skills required include management of hydrocephalus/VP shunt and hypothermia protocol
-
Skills required include hyperthermia management
-
Skills required include insulin administration and NG tube insertion/management
-
Additional skills required include intubation and UVC/UAC placement
-
One professional reference from a Charge Nurse, Supervisor, or Manager required, preferably within the last year
-
Flight training is part of the orientation process, conducted through a contracted vendor to meet training requirements similar to permanent transport team members
-
Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from any facility within the health system to be eligible
-
Scrubs may be any color except black or camo; scrubs are provided for this unit
-
Parking is free in any unrestricted space
-
Maximum of 7 days RTO permitted, with no RTO allowed during the first 2 weeks of the assignment
-
Former staff must be separated from the facility/system for at least 1 year before returning as a traveler
-
No felony convictions accepted; any background check hits require an explanation statement and waiver/approval documentation
-
RNs are required to complete an Epic Test-Out Module upon starting; if not passed, an 8-hour Epic training course will be assigned
-
First-time travelers are not typically considered for this role given the specialized transport experience requirement
