Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator(s) – Sports & Programs, this position provides support and leadership in the operations of sports and programs. Ideal candidates will have previous experience in various sports and have worked in youth and adult programming. This part-time position will work at least 10 hours a season and up to 25 hours in a week. The Recreation Attendant - Sports must be available to work afternoons, nights, and weekends. and various times depending on programs. Candidates must be 16 or older to apply.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensures programs are running smoothly and effectively by helping make sure that youth, adults, staff, spectators, and officials receive the proper communication and guidance for each program.
- Ensure a welcoming, safe, and positive environment by receiving and greeting individuals courteously and helping resolve any issues in a timely manner.
- Assist with programs by learning how to lead and best support the participants in those programs with coaching and support.
- Assist with setup of programs by arriving at the designated time to prepare for programs as directed.
- Supervise programs actively to ensure a safe, positive, and fun environment is being maintained for all participants, spectators, staff, and officials – intervening when necessary to resolve conflicts and contacting appropriate supervisors.
- Supervise programs independently and problem solve issues as the arise.
- Be knowledgeable and enforce Berthoud Recreation policies and procedures to take care of facilities and equipment appropriately.
- Have flexibility and be able to work nights, holidays, and weekends.
- Assist with special events.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Education/Experience: Any combination of education and experience may be considered for the position. A typical way to demonstrate the education and experience necessary for the position is:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- 1-2 years of customer service skills, a pleasant personality, and passion interacting with participants and the public preferred.
- Experience in various sports activities preferred.
- Experience working with youth, especially in programming environments preferred.
- Ability to perform multiple functions at once and the ability to handle the public in a friendly and professional manner.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively verbally; establish and maintain working relationships with employees and the public.
- To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a general understanding of a recreational atmosphere and administrative duties.
Computer Skills
- To perform this job successfully, an individual should understand general office software, including word processing and spreadsheets. Also, a basic understanding of scheduling software is required to record time worked.
Certificates and Licenses:
- Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's License
- Current CPR/First Aid/AED Certification or acquire after 3 months of hire.
