Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Certified Medical Assistant to join our dynamic healthcare team. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in supporting our medical staff in providing exceptional patient care within a fast-paced outpatient environment. This position requires a strong foundation in medical knowledge, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
Clinical Duties
These are hands-on tasks performed under the supervision of a licensed provider:
Patient intake & rooming:
- Measure and document vital signs (BP, HR, RR, Temp, SpO2, weight, height, BMI).
- Obtain chief complaint and medical history.
- Update medication and allergy lists in the EHR.
Injections & Immunizations:
- Administer intramuscular (IM), subcutaneous (SubQ), and intradermal (ID) injections (e.g., flu shots, B12, vaccines).
- Document lot numbers, expiration dates, and injection sites.
Blood Draws (Phlebotomy):
- Perform venipuncture for lab tests.
- Label specimens accurately and follow proper transport protocols.
- Follow infection control and PPE procedures.
Diagnostic Testing:
- Perform and document 12-lead EKGs.
- Conduct point-of-care tests (urinalysis, glucose testing, rapid strep, COVID, flu tests).
- Assist with spirometry and audiometry, if applicable.
Procedural Assistance:
- Set up and clean exam rooms.
- Prepare and hand instruments to the provider during minor procedures (e.g., I&D, skin biopsies).
- Apply dressings and assist with wound care.
Patient Education:
- Provide instructions for lab prep, medication usage, chronic disease management, or referrals.
- Support care coordination and follow-up instructions.
Administrative Duties
These support the front and back office operations:
Scheduling:
- Book, confirm, or reschedule appointments.
- Coordinate specialist referrals or follow-up visits.
Medical Records:
- Update EHR with patient data.
- Scan/upload external documents and test results.
Insurance & Billing:
- Verify insurance eligibility and coverage.
- Collect co-pays and assist with authorizations when needed.
Supply Management:
- Maintain inventory of clinical supplies and vaccines.
- Ensure equipment is clean, calibrated, and ready for use.
Qualifications
- Certification as a Medical Assistant from an accredited program is required.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Experience in an outpatient setting is preferred, particularly within Primary Care or Family Medicine
- Familiarity with coding systems for insurance billing is advantageous.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a healthcare team.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail to manage multiple tasks effectively.
